Our story

Made slowly, by hand, in Porto

Nyra Atelier was created by Sónia Bizarro. She is 34, a mother of three, twins included, and a full-time mum. Long drawn to interior design and decorative objects, she began making pieces of her own: textured, made by hand and meant to be lived with.

What started organically at home found its way to private clients and, gradually, became the atelier it is today.

Nyra Atelier is an independent atelier in Porto, Portugal, making handmade art and objects for the home. Everything we make starts with a simple idea: the things around you should feel personal, warm and made to last, with texture you can see and personality you can feel.

Made by hand, one piece at a time

We work slowly and with intention. Thread is stitched into canvas line by line; yarn is crocheted stitch by stitch, sometimes for 15 to 20 hours for a single piece. Because everything is made by hand, small variations in colour, texture and shape are part of each piece's character, and no two are ever exactly alike.

What we make

  • Wall Art – textile art and hand-embroidered thread art on canvas: textured pieces in warm, quiet colours that bring depth and character to a wall.
  • Crochet & Amigurumi – decorative crochet pieces and characters, including The Nyra Bunny Family, our signature collection of crochet bunnies with their own names and removable outfits.
  • Decorative Objects – pieces for the home beyond the canvas, handmade in our Porto atelier and starting with macramé. The first is Suspenso Terra, a large macramé wall hanging; new pieces will appear here as each one is ready.

Materials

We work with cotton and wool yarns, canvas and, for our crochet pieces, soft polyester fibre filling. Every product page lists exactly what that piece is made of, its size and how to care for it.
