Handmade Christmas gifts from Porto: a 2026 gift guide

Some gifts are opened, admired for a moment and forgotten. Others stay. At Nyra Atelier, a small atelier in Porto, every piece is made slowly and by hand, to be kept for years. This guide sorts our handmade Christmas gifts by budget, from a 40 € gift card to a one-of-a-kind macramé, and explains how long each piece takes to prepare at this time of year. Handmade Christmas gifts under 50 €

A crochet collectible from The Nyra Bunny Family

The Nyra Bunny Family is a family of six crochet bunnies, each made by hand in cotton yarn with soft polyester filling: Mia, Theo, Celeste, Sol, Luna and Rosa. Their sleepy eyes and little noses are embroidered by hand. Mia, the petite one, is about 28.5 cm (11.2 in) tall; her five siblings are about 37 cm (14.6 in), ears included. Most come with an outfit or accessory that comes off and goes back on.

Each bunny is 39,90 €. At the time of writing, choosing two or more from the family takes 15% off them. They are decorative collectibles, made for a shelf, a reading corner or a bedroom, not toys (14+).

A 40 € gift card

For a Secret Santa or a small thank-you, a Nyra Atelier gift card of 40 € lets them choose for themselves. For example, at today’s prices, it covers one crochet bunny. More on how the card works below.

50 to 100 €

For the art lover: Cadence

Cadence is an original thread art canvas, embroidered by hand with wool yarn on stretched canvas. Rows of red, mustard, olive green and dusty pink change tone along the line, like a quiet musical score. It measures 59 × 49 cm (23 × 19 in) and arrives ready to hang. It is one of a kind and costs 99 €; at the time of writing it is still available.

It suits someone who loves texture and colour, and who would rather own one real piece of art than another object on a shelf.

A 75 € or 100 € gift card

Gift cards of 75 € and 100 € sit in this band too. For example, at today’s prices, 75 € covers two bunnies with the family discount (about 67,83 €), and 100 € covers Cadence.

Over 100 €

For a big wall: Suspenso Terra

Suspenso Terra is a large macramé wall hanging, made by hand in Portugal and signed by Sónia Bizarro. Three draped panels of cord, from deep brown through caramel to soft taupe and grey, hang from a long natural wooden branch. It measures about 170 cm (67 in) wide, with the longest cords at about 100 cm (39 in), and hangs from the knotted rope at each end of the branch on two wall hooks (not included).

It is one of a kind and costs 149 €; at the time of writing it is still available. It travels in its own 175 cm box and ships within Europe only. Shipping is free to mainland Portugal, Madeira, the Azores and mainland Spain; 24,90 € to the Balearic Islands, Europe Zone 1, Switzerland and Norway; and 39,90 € to the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla, the Nordic countries and Europe Zone 2 (the countries in each zone are listed in our shipping policy). Because of its size, it is a gift for someone whose wall you know: it suits a three-seat sofa, a double bed or a long sideboard. Our guide on how to hang and care for textile wall art covers height and light. Our size guide helps you check the wall first.

Not sure about the wall? A gift card of 150 € or 250 € leaves the choice to them. For example, at today’s prices, 150 € covers Suspenso Terra, and 250 € covers Suspenso Terra and Cadence together. Both are one-of-a-kind pieces, so what is available will depend on when the card is spent.
